The Buy American Act (BAA) dates back to 1933 and has a similar intent as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) which became effective in February 2009. Both are designed to stimulate the American economy by creating new jobs and maintaining existing ones through economic activity and long term growth.

Applies to most federal agencies where the funding for projects is derived from stimulus funds in the ARRA legislation.
